Dear District 140 Families and Staff:

I hope this message finds you and your families safe and well. Today Governor Pritzker suspended in-school learning for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. And while in-person learning will not be possible, I assure you our entire staff remains committed to engaging with all students through our remote eLearning program. This program has been a learning experience for us all and will continue to evolve as we explore ways to safely provide more student-teacher interaction and meet the social emotional needs of our students.

Like you, we are saddened by the reality that many of our end-of-the-year activities will not be able to take place. Today’s announcement will result in significant and multiple scheduling changes in our District. Our schools are developing plans for how end-of-the-year events, such graduation, will be handled. Please be patient as we work as quickly as possible to get information to you over the next several weeks.

We know this is not how any of us anticipated the 2020 school year to end. Our hearts go out to the amazing members of the Class of 2020 and to our staff members who are concluding their careers with us this school year. The contributions our students and staff have made to our school community over the years have made a lasting impact on who we are as a school district. They will forever be cherished.

Thank you for reaching out to me with calls and emails and thank you for supporting our staff as we all adapt to a new normal. Throughout this ordeal, the resilience of our students, staff, and community has been nothing short of impressive.

Stay safe and stay healthy!

Dr. Shawn M. Olson
Superintendent
