Please note the following changes to the 2019-20 school year calendar.
- There are six HALF DAYS scheduled throughout the school year. Half days fall on September 19, October 31, December 20, February 14, May 8, and June 3 (tentatively scheduled as the last day of school). On these days, elementary schools will be dismissed at 11:10 a.m. and middle schools will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. Morning and afternoon Early Childhood students will be dismissed after 1 1/2 hours of student attendance. Preschool students will be dismissed after 1 hour of student attendance.
- As a precautionary student safety measure, the Board of Education has decided to take the Presidential Primary Election Day on Tuesday, March 17 as a school holiday because several of our schools are used as polling places. There is no school on Tuesday, March 17.
- March 17th’s Presidential Primary Election Day school holiday will replace the Casmir Pulaski Day school holiday. Students will now attend school on Pulaski Day, Monday, March 2.
- If emergency days are used during the school year, make-up days will be scheduled on the following holidays – Columbus Day (Oct. 14), Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Jan. 20), and Presidents’ Day (Feb. 17). When possible, the District will provide at least 10 days notice if a holiday will be used as a make-up day. Also, if any of the above holidays are used as make up days, our schools will provide additional instruction and/or service learning opportunities specifically targeted toward the missed holiday. KSD 140 recognizes that it is first and foremost a parental decision as to whether or not a child should attend school when a make-up day is scheduled on a holiday. We allow an excused absence if a parent elects to keep their student(s) home for personal reasons related to a missed holiday. As always, please notify your school office if your student will be absent.
