The Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA) took over Grissom’s P.E. classes on May 9-10 to raise awareness and promote acceptance of individuals with varying physical and developmental abilities. Students played adapted sports, including wheelchair basketball, sit volleyball, and goalball.
Assemblies and P.E. Takeover days allow LWSRA to reach out to youth, teens, and adults in the community to build a better understanding and acceptance of those with different abilities. Currently serving over 400 individuals through more than 200 programs annually, LWSRA offers a wide variety of quality programs, including participation in Special Olympics Illinois, Paralympic sports, social programs, trips, special events, summer camps, after-school care, and adult daytime activities.
Other Special Recreation Associations in our area include South Suburban Special Recreation Association (SSSRA), Southwest Special Recreation Association (SWSRA), and Orland Park Special Recreation.
