Clubs & Activities

Boys cross country members pose proudly at meet

We encourage our students to become part of extracurricular activities because we believe that they are a vital part of the middle school experience. Various clubs and sports operate throughout the year. It is expected that each club/sport participant will maintain passing grades and appropriate behavior. Attendance during regular school hours is required in order to participate in after school activities.

Southwest Interscholastic Conference (SWIC)

Grissom Middle Schools is a member of the Southwest Interscholastic Conference, or “SWIC.” This conference hosts twelve south suburban junior high/middle schools in a unified approach to a number of athletic and academic activities. SWIC has an adopted Constitution that governs activity rules or guidelines. When certain athletic guidelines may not apply, SWIC defers to the operational guidelines of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) for basic direction. SWIC does not govern the eligibility of student participation in each member school in terms of academic standards; that is left to each school to create and enforce. SWIC does apply certain age and grade level restrictions (6th, 7th, or 8th Grade) to its activities for all member schools to abide by in their team rosters.
