Declamation
Sponsor: Mr. Joe Cernak
The SWIC Declamation team offers sixth, seventh, and eighth graders an opportunity to build public speaking skills in a variety of categories. A school squad might consist of up to 24 students who will perform for their families. After the performances for families, the coach(es) will determine the strongest act in each category. These students will represent Grissom at the SWIC Competition in April. Try-outs and practices begin in January. Students earn individual honors and recognition for their performances at the conference meet, as well as school placement honors.
Declamation Team Events Include:
Humorous Duet Acting, Verse (Poetry) Reading, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Oratorical Declamation (speech), Prose Reading
Declamation Schedule: Individuals or duos will rehearse at least once a week with the declamation coach, as well as practice on their own at home. All participants will perform at Family Night, which is scheduled for February 25 at 6:00 pm.
Declamation SWIC Competition: Monday, April 7, at Jerling Junior High School for selected performers. (One per category)
