When the 2019-20 school year begins in August, students attending Fernway Park Elementary School will have a new principal. KSD 140 educator Sandy Hutchinson was selected to lead the school, taking over for Juli Cosentino who is leaving to become the new Principal of Millennium Elementary School.
Mrs. Hutchinson is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She also holds three Master’s degrees in Teaching and Leadership (St. Xavier University), Reading Education (Olivet Nazarene University) and School Administration (Concordia University) and has worked in District 140 for the past 30 years. She was most recently the Assistant Principal of Grissom Middle School. Before that, she was a Reading Specialist at Fernway and taught kindergarten and second grade at both Fernway and Bannes elementary schools.
Principal Hutchinson says she knows she has a group of talented, enthusiastic and uniquely creative teachers, staff, and students. She hopes to build upon this foundation and looks forward to working with an established teaching staff and school community.
"Fernway School is truly a special place and I am honored to have the opportunity to be back as the principal," stated Mrs. Hutchinson. "I'm looking forward to working closely with the students, staff, and the community to build a love for learning and to ensure that our students grow in all areas."
"It is so exciting for me to be coming 'home' and once again be part of the great things that happen here!"
