Fernway Elementary School celebrated Veterans Day with a choir performance and special guest speaker, Mr. Hank Fellows. The assembly included former Fernway teacher, Greg Geiffers, who spoke to students, parents and Veterans about his experiences serving in the Vietnam war. Under the direction of our music teacher, Mrs. Jones, the 4th grade choir sang many Patriotic songs. Third grade teacher, Ms. Krull, joined the choir and Mrs. Jones in singing the "Star Spangled Banner". Staff members, Mr. Harvey and Mr. Plefka and Mrs. Jones' husband accompanied the choir on guitar.
Today's performance was enhanced by a visit from, songwriter, Mr. Hank Fellows. With great pride, our choir performed his song, "The Spirit of America" which was written ''as a love song to his grief-stricken country.' Later Mr. Fellows gave a master class in songwriting for the choir and also performed for them. You can learn more about Mr. Fellows by visiting his website www.AmericasSongwriter.com.
