Dear Parents and/or Guardians,
Our first day of school is quickly approaching on August 25, 2010! On that day, student attendance will be from 8:45 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. Please note that our start and dismissal times for the middle schools will slightly change this year. For the 2010-2011 school year, Grissom will begin the school day at 8:45 a.m. and dismiss students at 3:05 p.m. Band students will begin their day at 7:35 a.m. It is also important to remember that students are not allowed to be on school grounds or enter the building until 8:30 a.m. unless they are attending Band.
In order to accommodate the changing needs of our community, our beginning of the year procedure, formerly known as Parent Information Day, has changed. Included in this mailing you will find your student’s schedule, transportation assignment (if applicable) and SDS Online Grading Log-in information. If you are missing any of these key pieces of information please contact our office at (708) 429-3030. On August 18th from 3:00 -7:00 p.m., Grissom will hold an All Student Walk Through. This is a wonderful day in which you can tend to the middle school needs of your child; purchase needed locks for lockers, gym suits, book socks, spirit wear, etc. Parents and students may also walk throughout the building acquainting themselves with where classes are located, as well as putting belongings in their lockers. Please remember if you and your student take advantage of this walk through to write down his or her locker combination and put it in a safe place to avoid any difficulties upon their return to school. Please note that students will not be allowed to enter the building unaccompanied by a parent or guardian.
The next important evening that lends itself to a seamless beginning of your student’s school year is Open House. Open House is scheduled for August 25th from 6:30-9:00 p.m. On this evening, parents will have additional time to take care of any purchasing needs for supplies from our PTO and walk your child's schedule to meet your student’s teacher, learn about their academic curriculum and Grissom Middle School and teacher expectations for a successful year.
