Transportation
Kirby School District 140 owns and operates its own transportation system and is classified as a common school
district; therefore, the district is not required by statute or The School Code of Illinois to provide transportation.
However, the Board of Education is concerned with the safety of your child; therefore, this service is provided.
Transportation for students to and from child care providers will be provided under certain conditions. Please contact the
Transportation Department at the Administration Center for details.
School bus transportation is provided for students of School District 140 who:
- Live one and one-half (1.5) miles or more from the school they attend, free of charge.
- Are in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade and live between seven tenths (.7) and one and one-half miles
from the school they attend, at an annual fee established by the Board of Education of Kirby School District 140.
Bus fees are established for the beginning of each school year. They are pro-rated monthly for new residents only.
If a parent chooses not to pay for the bus, they have the option of paying at a later date - providing there is room
on that particular bus, however; they would be required to pay the full year transportation fee.
