Dear Parents:
Happy New Year! I hope that 2009 will be a healthy year for all. The students look great in their new brightly colored jackets, hats and scarves. Please make sure they come to school dressed warmly. They will go out for recess if the temperature is above 20 degrees. The students are back into their "school routine". Please check their homework assignment book nightly and encourage them to complete their assignments on time. The children need to learn their math facts and should be reading every night. Less TV is also encouraged. A recent study found that children who watch a lot of TV eat fewer fruits and vegetables and consume more junk food.
As you know, our theme for this school year is "WE CAN DO IT!" We can be polite, respectful, responsible and nice to others. We can follow directions and do our homework! Ask your children about the song we sing every morning! Remember Character Counts!!
Check your child's backpack for the latest information describing before/after school activities. 5th Grade will perform at their beginning band concert on January 21st. More information will follow. First grade will skate on January 7th, and the fifth grade skating party is scheduled for January 14th. Good Luck to all the students who will enter the science fair. I look forward to seeing the finished projects. The students are always so creative. Parents are welcome to view the projects on January 13th at 6 P.M. in the Commons.
Remember, Kindergarten Registration is February 4th at all elementary schools in District 140. It is important that you register early.
A continuing THANK YOU to the PTO and all the moms and dads who volunteer their time in their children's classroom. It is most appreciated by the staff, and the children enjoy seeing their parents in the building.
Remember to drop off/pick up your car riders on O'Brien Drive. Be patient, the line does move when parents follow directions. Safety of our students is so important.
