As a condition for employment in Kirby School District 140, you must successfully pass an examination to determine that you are in good health and free of tuberculosis. To comply with the Illinois School Code, the TB skin test must be administered within 90 days prior to the start of employment. Your physician must provide the results of your TB skin test or chest x-ray, as well as the date on which it was performed and read. Self-reading by employee is not acceptable.

Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid State of Illinois Elementary Teaching Certificate with the Self-Contained General Education Endorsement and the Gifted Education Verification Letter (Grades 6 to 8 Assignment also requires Science, Mathematics, Language Arts or Social Sciences Endorsement).

2. Such other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence as the Board of Education may specify.

REPORTS TO: Curriculum Coordinator/Building Administrator

JOB GOAL: Plan, implement and monitor the instructional programs as appropriate to content area to ensure that assigned students meet or exceed the expectations defined by the Illinois Learning Standards.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: The Kirby School District 140 teacher is expected to meet the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards – Performance Indicators. Performance responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Adapts the general curriculum and uses instructional strategies and materials according to characteristics of the learner.

2. Demonstrates the ability to co-teach and co-plan.

3. Creates and selects learning materials and learning experiences appropriate for the discipline and curriculum goals.

4. Structures instruction and designs learning tasks and assignments to reflect higher-level thinking skills.

5. Uses assessment results to diagnose students’ learning needs, align and modify instruction, and design teaching strategies.

6. Participates in collaborative decision-making and problem-solving with administrators and staff to achieve success for all students.

7. Organizes, allocates, and manages time, materials, and physical space to provide active engagement of students in productive tasks.

8. Demonstrates a variety of effective behavior management techniques appropriate to the needs of all students, including those with disabilities (including implementing the least intrusive intervention consistent with the needs of these students).

9. Models accurate, effective communication when conveying ideas and information and when asking questions and responding to students.

10. Models the rules of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax in both written and oral contexts.

11. Communicates with parents/guardians to develop cooperative partnerships in order to promote students’ learning and well-being.

12. Contributes to the well-being of one’s school community.

13. Collaborates with other professionals as resources for problem-solving, generating new ideas, sharing experiences, and seeking and giving feedback.

14. Follows School District Policies and Administrative Procedures and codes of professional conduct, respecting the boundaries of professional responsibilities, when working with students, colleagues, and families.

15. Reports any suspected child abuse or neglect as required.

16. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as administration may assign, in accordance with Board of Education policies and administrative procedures.

EVALUATION: Evaluation will be in accordance with the District’s Teacher Evaluation Plan.
Benefits
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and fringe benefits in accordance with the current Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement. 180 work days annually established by the Board of Education.
