As a condition for employment in Kirby School District 140, you must successfully pass an examination to determine that you are in
good health and free of tuberculosis. To comply with the Illinois School Code, the TB skin test must be administered within 90 days
prior to the start of employment. Your physician must provide the results of your TB skin test or chest x-ray, as well as the date on
which it was performed and read. Self-reading by employee is not acceptable.

BASIC FUNCTION: Drive a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to an assigned location on a designated route; perform regular safety inspections.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Successfully pass a medical examination to determine good health and freedom from tuberculosis;
2. Dependable work record
3. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;
4. Valid Illinois, Class B, Commercial Drivers License with a School Bus designation and a valid passenger endorsement (must successfully complete the required 8 hour initial training class).
5. Completion of required annual refresher course; and
6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed.
KNOWLEDGE OF:

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Drive a school bus along a designated route; pick up and discharge authorized students at designated stops in accordance with time schedules; observe legal and defensive driving practices; assure compliance with applicable traffic and student transportation laws, codes and regulations.
2. Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus and while waiting at bus stops in accordance with policies related to disciplining students; prepare related reports as necessary.
3. Determine appropriate action in emergency situations according to established guidelines; administer first aid to passengers as needed. Reports all accidents and completes required reports.
4. Conduct required daily safety inspections of buses; inspect the interior and exterior to assure safe operational condition; report mechanical malfunctions or other problems as required; prepare and maintain related records.
5. Maintain buses in a clean and safe operating condition; wash, sweep and clean buses on a regular basis; refuel, service and prepare vehicle for operation.
6. Transport students, faculty and parents on field trips or other events; meet scheduled departure and arrival times as assigned; prepare related logs and reports.
7. Utilize two-way radios (cell phones in emergency situations) for bus to bus and bus to base communications.
8. Attend safety meetings and programs as assigned.
9. Maintain ethical and moral standards inclusive of confidentiality of information about students.
10. File necessary child abuse/neglect reports, as necessary.
11. Perform such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Department Supervisor and/or Director of Business Services may assign, in accordance with Board of Education policies and procedures.

LICENSES AND OTHER ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Valid Illinois, Class B, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a School Bus (S) designation and a valid passenger endorsement.
2. Must submit to random drug and alcohol screening.

4. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to inspect and wash buses.
5. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders or horizontally.
6. Seeing to monitor passengers and operate a vehicle.
7. Moderately heavy lifting.
HAZARDS:
1. Traffic hazards.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually including a driving evaluation every two years by the Department Supervisor and/or Director of Business Services, in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy
| Benefits Category of Position – 10. Work year based on student attendance days. Hourly rate of pay and Fringe Benefit Package I as established by the Board of Education.
